About This Trip

What to Expect

Uganda holds one of the highest bird counts of any country in Africa, and this itinerary is built around its three standout birding sites. Mabamba Swamp, on the shores of Lake Victoria, is the most reliable place on the continent to see the prehistoric-looking Shoebill — tracked by dugout canoe through the papyrus. The Kazinga Channel, linking Lake Edward and Lake George in Queen Elizabeth National Park, concentrates pelicans, kingfishers, and fish eagles alongside hippos and buffalo on a slow boat cruise. Lake Mburo rounds out the trip with dry acacia woodland species you won't find in the wetter parks. It's a trip for travellers who want their binoculars out every day, paced for serious birding rather than a quick stop.
